How do you know you have a drinking problem #2

It’s got nothing to do with the amount or the frequency. There’s two simple questions to ask yourself;

  • Is drinking having an adverse impact on my quality of life in any way?
  • Do I not feel in control in any way or a slave to the above?

If you answered ‘yes’ to both these questions, you have a drinking problem.

Common adverse impacts; are these true for your drinking pattern?

  • Sleep pattern
  • Too many hangovers
  • Feeling tired too much
  • Making you late for work or calling-in sick too much (re the above; if you’re working)
  • Many more

Feeling you’re not in control

  • You really want it but you really don’t at the same time & are desperate for a break
  • You feel like a slave
  • You feel a profound deprivation feeling if you try to moderate or drink below your ‘usual amount’ if it’s 6-7-8+beers per session
  • You get an overwhelming desire for the effects of alcohol, to the degree you can’t think of anything else
  • You can’t get the thought out of your mind closing time of the nearest off license or pub/bar closes

In conclusion

That’s it. I hope the prompts are helpful. It’s got nothing to do with the amount or the frequency of your drinking or the type of drink. If you answer ‘yes’ to the above two questions, you have problematic relationship with alcohol.
